My First Trip Overseas – Japan 2024!
If you had told me a year ago that I’d be traveling to Japan, I wouldn’t have believed you. But during the September school holidays, I was lucky enough to be part of Redbank Plains State High School’s 2024 Japanese Cultural Trip, and it was beyond anything I could have imagined!
A group of thirty-five students, accompanied by four staff members, embarked on this unforgettable journey to Japan, immersing themselves in its rich culture, history, and vibrant city life.
From the neon lights of Shibuya to the peaceful temples of Kyoto, every moment felt like stepping into a different world. We explored the Imperial Palace, wandered through the fashion hub of Harajuku, and even spent a magical day at Disneyland!
Visiting Nerima City and experiencing a Japanese school firsthand was incredible—I was amazed at the differences and similarities between our schools. The students were so welcoming, and it was exciting to experience a school day in Japan. Every year, we also host a Nerima City Study Tour, where Japanese students visit our school and experience life in Australia. After visiting their school, I can't wait to return the favour and show them our way of life when they come here!
The breathtaking views of Mt Fuji, the bullet train rides, and standing in the Hiroshima Peace Park were moments I’ll never forget. Feeding the friendly deer in Nara and tasting Osaka’s famous street food in Dotonbori were highlights too! And to top it all off, we got to experience a Maiko (Geisha) dinner—a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
This trip wasn’t just about sightseeing; it opened my eyes to a whole new culture, new traditions, and new ways of seeing the world. I’ve come home with amazing memories, new friendships, and a serious craving for real ramen!
