The Department of Education has introduced an "away for the day" policy (July 2023), and after careful consideration with our staff and Parent and Citizens Association (P & C) representatives, our school has decided to implement the following approach:
- Phone Pouches: Each student will be issued a magnetic lock phone pouch. Phones will be locked in these pouches during the roll-marking period and unlocked at the end of Period 4.
- Classroom Un/locking Devices: Classrooms will be equipped with a device to lock and unlock the pouches, allowing supervised use of phones for curriculum purposes.
- Consequences for Violations: Students found using a phone during the school day will be required to surrender it to the Student Office. For the first violation, students will collect the phone at the end of the day. Subsequent violations will require parent collection of the phone. Continued non-compliance will result in an escalation of consequences.
- Canteen Purchases: All transactions at the canteen will be restricted to debit card or cash.
- Laptops: To ensure the highest educational outcomes, all students will be required to have a laptop at school. This device will serve as a crucial tool for educational success and communication with families during school time.
