At Redbank Plains State High School, student leadership is more than a badge or title, it is a commitment to service, growth and positive influence within our school and wider community. Aligned to our Vision of empowering every student to achieve success, our leadership program intentionally develops confident, capable and community-minded young people who are ready to shape their futures. Through structured leadership pathways and whole-school opportunities, students build the skills to lead with integrity, communicate with purpose, and contribute meaningfully.
A key pillar of our program is the L.E.A.D. Program (Leading, Educating, Aspiring to make a Difference). Elected student leaders are invited to participate in fortnightly 30-minute leadership workshops designed to intentionally grow their confidence, character and capability. These workshops provide a safe and supportive environment where students reflect on their strengths, set meaningful goals, and strengthen their leadership identity. Highlights include developing common goals and clear success steps, practising courageous conversations, learning how to amplify student voice constructively, building initiative through team challenges, and exploring how leadership behaviours align with our school values. The focus is not just on holding a position, but on building the mindset and skillset to positively influence others.
Our leaders are guided by our Mission to provide high-quality learning experiences that prepare students for life beyond school. They engage in authentic decision-making, mentor peers, collaborate with staff and community partners, and contribute to shaping a culture where every student feels seen, heard and valued.
Underpinning everything is our Student Leaders' Agreement - a shared commitment to uphold our school values of Respect, Integrity, Diversity and Unity. As leaders, students commit to listening without interrupting and valuing different opinions; taking responsibility for their actions and standing by their values; actively including others and ensuring all voices are heard; and working cooperatively to create safe, positive environments where everyone feels valued. These agreed behaviours guide how our leaders act in classrooms, on the sporting field, at community events and in everyday interactions.
Leadership at RPSHS is inclusive and developmental, supporting students from Years 7–12 to grow in confidence, character and capability, regardless of their starting point.
By nurturing leadership capacity across all year levels, we are not only strengthening our school culture but are developing future-ready young people who will positively impact their communities long after they graduate.
Peer Power Australia
At our school, we believe in nurturing leadership skills from the ground up. That's why our Year 12 School Leaders participate annually in the Peer Power leadership coaching program, commencing from Term 4 (Year 11) of the preceding year. Through this program, our student leaders embark on a journey of self-discovery, exploring their unique personalities and honing their leadership abilities. With a focus on fostering an inclusive and respectful environment, they learn valuable skills that emphasise the importance of embracing respect and diversity to unite our school community.
Year 11 Leadership Camp
At Redbank Plains State High School, we recognise the significance of developing a leadership culture in young people to positively influence attitudes and behaviours to improve our school culture. The Year 11 Leadership Camp aims to equip our future school leaders with the skills and confidence needed to develop strong leadership in Year 12. Students learn about the core skills – inclusion, team building, morale, and peer organisation.
