Years 7 and 8 students participate in a weekly 70 minute numeracy lesson. These lessons aim to develop students’ numeracy knowledge, skills, abilities and attitudes by engaging students in fun and challenging maths tasks.
We are working towards every student improving their understanding, fluency, problem solving and reasoning skills across all areas of maths (number and algebra; measurement and geometry; and statistics and probability). We also have a particular focus on improving students’ mental computation strategies.
Students in Years 7 and 8, will access this online learning resource on a fortnightly basis as part of their numeracy lessons. Students in our Special Education Program will also have access to MangaHigh.
Over 5200 schools use MangaHigh, which is one of the world’s first games-based learning sites, where students learn Maths via purpose-built casual games that balance fun and learning. Each game is designed to adapt in difficulty to the ability of the student in order to ensure students stay in their zone of proximal development (i.e., the level of difficulty is neither too hard nor too easy, and is at a level to optimise their learning).
Students can achieve Bronze, Silver and Gold medals in MangaHigh. Achieving a Bronze medal indicates that students have a basic understanding of the key objectives of the challenge and a competence with typical/standard applications of the topic, whereas achieving Silver and Gold medals indicates that students have a secure and exceptional understanding of the teaching objective and a competence with non-typical/extension applications of the topic.
Please encourage your child to actively use Mangahigh outside of school hours (ideally for at least three 30 minute sessions per week), in order to improve their Math ability and perform better on Maths assessment tasks. To access MangaHigh, students use their login details at the following website:
