NERIMA Study Tour 2024

This year Redbank Plains SHS (along with a number of other Ipswich schools) participate in the Nerima Study tour. The tour is part of the Sister City Relationship between Ipswich City and Nerima City, Tokyo Japan. The Study Tour involves hosting students (aged 12 – 15) from various junior high schools in the Nerima municipality.

Volunteers wanted to provide the ultimate Australian cultural immersion experience for visiting Japanese students at RPSHS! Volunteer as a homestay family to receive a total payment of $260, covering six nights of accommodation and meals. Not only that, but your assigned child (nominated buddy) will be fully included in all school-related and extracurricular events.

Host students are aged 12–15 from Nerima City, Japan, Ipswich's  City's Sister City!

Dates: Monday 22 July - Sunday 28 July 2024

Hosting a student involved in a Study tour provides:

  • An enriching cultural experience not only for the student hosting but for the whole school
  • Opportunity for lifelong friendships with international students
  • Potential for students to practice social and leadership skills
  • A greater understanding and respect for those with different backgrounds, expanding our students worldwide view

Host family responsibilities include:

  • Cater for the student for the duration of their stay
  • Providing a family atmosphere and involving the students in family activities during their stay
  • Providing transport to and from school
  • Permitting host students to attend excursions that the school provides for the Nerima students
  • Attending the official Nerima Farewell dinner for host families and their guests on the last night of the tour

The tour generally takes place in early Term 3, with the school asking for host family volunteers. A financial contribution is allocated to all host families as a thank you for welcoming the Nerima students into their homes.
