Role:
Guidance and counselling services focus on assisting students to achieve their potential in the most appropriate educational setting and provide for the personal, social and intellectual development of individuals. Guidance Officers may work directly with the student or with the student's teachers, support personnel, family, other specialists or professionals from other agencies depending on the issues to be resolved and the age of the student, and plan or assist in planning support programs that can help students achieve positive outcomes. A range of issues may be supported by Guidance Officers including personal and social development, diverse learning styles and needs, and educational and career pathways whilst respecting client privacy and confidentiality.
Services Offered:
Work as part of a multidisciplinary team and facilitate effective working relationships and partnerships with parents, school personnel and external support agencies, in order to provide a comprehensive support, case management and referral service that optimises students’ access and engagement in educational programs
Provide counselling and referral service to assist students in decision making about critical educational, personal, social, emotional and/or career development and provide ongoing support
Conduct activities such as student observation and psychoeducational assessment in order to determine the nature of student learning difficulties, disabilities, developmental levels or psychological and emotional status in order to make recommendations for educational adjustments and interventions
Assist with career education, specifically with the Senior Education and Training (SET) planning and Tertiary planning including Pathways to University, TAFE, Institutes of Technology and/or private colleges
