The Good Start Program (implemented by the Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service) is a free program designed to support Māori and Pacific Islander students to learn about health, nutrition and the importance of physical activity through culturally tailored workshops.

The program aims to lower the levels of chronic disease and obesity by working with families to build their knowledge, skills and confidence about healthy eating, physical activity and lifestyle practices.

Program outline:
  • Aim to improve outcomes for children, young people and their families by delivering education sessions across health and education sectors.
  • Lead the implementation and response to obesity and chronic disease prevention.
  • Deliver front-line workshops.
